12.7.1 si = if
 

S'il vient, il te le dira.

    If he comes, I will tell you.

12.7.2 lorsque = when
  Lorsqu' on veut vraiment quelque chose, on trouve toujours un moyen de le faire.
    When really wanting something, one always finds a way to do it.

Quand, lorsque and si are similar, but not identical. The time is always referred to with quand and lorsque . Real condition is referred to with si.

Example
  Quand il a appris que son épouse est morte, il s' était éffondré.
  Lorsqu' il a appris que son épouse est morte, il s' était éffondré.
    When he heard that his wife had died, he broke down.

The conditional clause of the Realis of the present tense can also be formed with lorsque and quand.

Example
  Lorsqu' on sait ce qu' on veut, on trouve un moyen de le réaliser.
  Quand on sait ce qu' on veut, on trouve un moyen de le réaliser.
  Si on sait ce qu' on veut, on trouve un moyen de le réaliser.
    When knowing what one wants, one finds a way to realise it.

The conditional clause of the Irrealis of the present and of the past cannot be formed with lorsque or quand.

Example
  S'il lui disait ce qu' il en pensait, le problème serait résolu.
    If he said, what he thinks, the problem would be solved.
  S'il lui avait dit ce qu' il en pensait, le problème aurait été résolu.
    If he had said, what he thinks, the problem would have been solved.
Not: Quand / Lorsqu' il disait ...

Lorsque has three functions:
Lorsque
  a one-time short interaction of two events - timely (when, as)
  Lorsqu' il s' est rendu compte qu' il avait perdu son argent, il a commencé a pleurer.
    When he noticed that he had lost his money, he started to cry.
  regular short interaction of two events - timely (when, as)
  Lorsqu' il lisait un livre, il était inutile d'essayer de lui adresser la parole.
    When he was reading a book, it was useless to talk to him.
  in the realis of the present it can substitute si
  Lorsqu' on fait ce qu' il veut, il est content.
    If one does what he wants, he is happy.
