Translate into English, use both - the participle and the conditional clause.

  Examples
Sachant lire, il n' aurait pas tant de problèmes.
    Knowing how to read he would not have so many problems.
    If he knew how to read, he would not have so many problems.
  Sachant lire, il n' aurait pas eu tant de problèmes.
    Knowing how to read he would not have had so many problems.
    If he had known how to read, he would not have had so many problems.

  Mangée juste après être récoltée, elle serait riche en vitamines.
  Mangée juste après être récoltée, elle aurait été riche en vitamines.

  Parlant moins, il a moins de problèmes.
