Does an adjective end on d, t, s, z, eux, er, l, n the feminine form receives the suffix -e and thus the final consonant is voiced (again). This is a basic rule with some variations as you will see:

d =>de
allemand allemande
un vin allemand une pomme allemande
    a wine German an apple German
lourd lourde
  un camion lourd une voiture lourde
    a truck heavy a car heavy
  ABER      
    malade (masculine)      
  un homme malade  
    a man ill  
    malade (feminine)      
  une femme malade  
    a woman ill
