13.44 Preposition and adverb

We have already mentioned the problem of preposition and adverb. A preposition refers to an object (a noun). An adverb refers to a context, a verb or another adverb.

avant
Il est venu avant six heures. = He came before six o' clock.
Il l' a fait avant. = He has done it before.
après
Après huit heures du soir, il n'y a plus personne dans la rue.
= After eight o' clock in the evening there is nobody on the street anymore.
Après, il m' a dit qu'il avait menti.
= Later he told me that he had song .
depuis
Elle habite à Paris depuis trente ans déjà. = She has already lived for 30 years in Paris.
Je ne l' ai pas vu depuis. = I have not seen him since then.
en face
En face de la maison, il y a un restaurant. = In front of the house there is a restaurant.
Il est au café d' en face. = He is in the restaurant being opposite.
